Pipeline State is the set of running conditions a pipeline remembers between executions. It helps the pipeline continue from where it left off instead of starting over during every run.

For example, state can help a pipeline remember:

  • The most recent reading it captured from the source.
  • Where it sends data in the target platform, including established sensor mappings.

Most users can view or clear Pipeline State, but cannot edit individual state values.

View Pipeline State

To view the current state:

  1. Go to Pipelines and open the pipeline.
  2. Open the pipeline’s Settings.
  3. Select the Advanced tab.
  4. Review the Pipeline State shown for the source and target.

Viewing the state does not change the pipeline.

What Happens When State Is Cleared?

Clearing Pipeline State restores the pipeline’s running conditions to the same state as a newly created pipeline. The pipeline will no longer remember:

  • The most recent reading it captured.
  • The target sensors or other destinations it previously used.

On a later execution, the pipeline may process readings it handled previously or create replacement sensors in the target platform. The exact behavior depends on the source and target integrations.

Clearing state resets the existing pipeline without creating another pipeline. This avoids running an additional pipeline whose activity could increase usage charges.

When Should State Be Cleared?

Clearing state may be appropriate when:

  • IMSURGE support asks you to reset it while troubleshooting.
  • A sensor or other destination created by the pipeline was deleted from the target platform and needs to be created again.
  • A target sensor or mapping has become corrupted and the pipeline needs to establish a new destination.
  • You intentionally want the existing pipeline to behave like a newly created pipeline on its next execution.

Do not clear state simply to retry a failed execution or recover recent data. Depending on the problem, a Manual Execution may be more appropriate.

Clear Pipeline State

Before clearing state, confirm that you understand which source progress and target destinations the pipeline will forget.

  1. Go to Pipelines and open the pipeline.
  2. Open the pipeline’s Settings.
  3. Select the Advanced tab.
  4. Review the current Pipeline State.
  5. Select Clear State.

The next execution will establish new running conditions as it processes data.

State and Pipeline Duplication

Duplicating a pipeline copies its Pipeline State. The duplicate therefore inherits the original pipeline’s last captured reading and established target destinations.

This enables specialized workflows in which multiple pipelines need to continue from the same point or send data using the same established target mappings. It is an advanced and uncommon use case; for most workflows, one pipeline should continue managing its existing data flow.

Although a duplicate starts with no execution history, its copied state means it does not start with fresh running conditions.
